"Nga mihi o te tau hou Maori - Greetings of the Maori New Year"

It was great to celebrate Matariki at Maihiihi School this year.  We had a good turn out of whanau who came along on Wednesday and joined in the Matariki activities we had planned.   Our kids really enjoyed the event and we can only look forward to this being even bigger and better next year!

Term 4 Senior Camp & Adventure Week:  We are busy planning our Term 4 Senior Camp and Year 3-6 Adventure Week activities.  Can all caregivers of students in Years 3 to 8 please return the intention to attend camp/adventure week forms asap.  We need to gauge the potential costs of the camp and adventure week activities and set a fundraising target.  Please return your form asap otherwise we will be in contact by the end of next week.

Building Renovations:  Our building renovations are coming along nicely.  It is really exciting to see the spaces starting to take shape and we can't wait to get in and start using these.  We are still on the look out for a kitchen bench (approx. 2-3m) with a sink included.  If you can help us out please let Julz in the office know.  We are also needing someone to come in and give our donated kitchen ovens a good clean/scrub so if that's you - please sing out!

Cybersafety / BYOD Forms:  These have been updated and every child in the school needs to have returned a signed Cybersafety Form (and BYOD Form if they are using their own devices).  We will be chasing these forms up this week too. Flying Fox use:  Playground Creations have informed us that Flying Foxes need the most adjusting/tensioning in the first 3 months of use so we are monitoring student use of the FF closely to make sure our students are safe while using it. It does meet the NZ Safety playground standards as confirmed by Playground Creations.  They are coming out regularly to check the tensioning at our request.  We are assessing the suitability of age/weight group that may end up using this.  Our BOT are also in the process of tidying up around the platform and this will be done over the next couple of weeks - thanks Rob and Jeff!

Winter Colds & Flu: Thank you to our parents who are keeping home children who are unwell.  If in doubt about whether to send your child to school or not please give the office a call to chat about it.  Covid is still around so keep being vigilant and testing. Remember, we also have RATS tests available so if you or the family need one, so just let us know. NZ School Trustee Association upcoming triennial elections: If you are thinking of coming onboard as a school trustee please refer to the NZSTA website so you can get your head around what the role is all about.  We have 5 parent trustees positions on our board, plus a staff rep as well as the Principal.  More information will be coming your way next term.  Our election day has been set for Wednesday 7th September.  https://www.schoolboardelections.org.nz/becoming-a-board-member/
