Principal's Welcome

Welcome to Maihiihi School

 "Ko Maihiihi, Ko Au - Ko Au, Ko Maihiihi

Maihiihi is Me - I am Maihiihi"

We welcome you and your family to Maihiihi, to share our school’s vision for teaching and learning.  Our holistic philosophy supports our student’s full range of needs. A major part of educating for the future requires us to equip our students with the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to develop into lifelong learners.  We place considerable significance on our Maihiihi LEARN-er Values:

L = Lead/Live, E = Excellence, A = Attitude, R = Respect & Resilience, N = Nothing Great is Easily Won

Learners need to feel secure, safe and supported before they take on learning risks. The positive relationships between our staff and our students is a feature of Maihiihi School.  Our talented and dedicated staff are passionate about education and the positive effects that we can have on children’s lives. At Maihiihi our teachers are our most important resource, we ensure they remain fresh and in tune with ‘best practice’ teaching methods through ongoing professional development.

Our school is built around our students becoming the 'Maihiihi LEARNer' who is a communicator, researcher, thinker, risk taker, team player, self manager and is learning across the curriculum as an individual. There are 3 important groups of people involved in the school;  the students who are at the centre of everything that we do, the staff who implement the teaching and learning programs with a high expectation for our students and the whanau and community who help build the partnership and positive feeling for the students with their involvement and interest. All of these things come together to help build success for our students in their learning.

The teaching and learning does not begin and end at the school gate. It is a partnership that we are all involved in and need to work together on. All our students are individuals who have different learning styles and speeds. We aim to cater for the individuality of our learners to help them reach their full potential.

We have a passion for learning and believe it can be fun, and should impart a sense of ownership and success. Our challenge is to ensure our students retain their motivation to ask questions, and to give them an educational foundation that empowers them to make sense of their world and control their destiny.  We foster life skills, including the key competencies, so our learners can move on to secondary education with a strong degree of independence and self discipline.

I look forward to meeting you and your family, and introducing you to Maihiihi School in person.
